A big "thank you" to David Bennett who wrote an article for the November/December 2006, "Amateur Dancers Magazine," entitled "Best Cities to Dance: Dallas". In the article, David wrote about ballroom dancing in and around the Irving area. He had this to say about the First Sunday Dance. "Near Irving, the top floor of the Sterling Hotel is the venue for a monthly first Sunday dance. It's one of the better regular social dances in DFW attracting mostly upscale singles." Much thanks to Mark Abramowitz who responded to a survey asked by "USA Dance, Inc." for "The 10 Best Cities to Live in if you are a Ballroom Dancer." Mark's nomination was selected and was published in the USA Dance, Inc. Publication, "Amateur Dancers" November/December 2005 Issue. Mark wrote, "I would like to nominate the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex as having a very good climate for ballroom dancing. There are high quality classes all other this area as well as the best availability of single female dancers if you are a single male. Single female dancers in the 40 to 75 age group are in abundance at almost all places where there is active ballroom dancing in Ft. Worth, Dallas and many smaller towns in between." Next, Mark says, "Traveling to the Dallas area for ballroom dancing, we find no shortage of good ballroom dancers or places to go. First, there is the "First Sunday" ballroom dances at the Sterling Hotel in Irving, TX just outside Dallas. Quite a popular place for single ballroom dancers where the ladies outnumber the men I would say by at least 2 to 1. This popular spot is 12 floors up in the Penthouse level of the hotel and is a spot for excellent dance exhibitions during the monthly dances as well as attendance by several dance instructors who teach in the local area. Dance hosts available." Thank you, Mark! All ballroom dancers in Dallas/Ft. Worth appreciate you nominating the metroplex as a major ballroom dance area. |
